Lake Ranch
Hulett, Wyoming
[visit the Lake Ranch home page]
Lake Ranch, WyomingThe Lake Ranch is uniquely positioned on the edge of  the Black Hills. The land varies from prairie grasslands, wooded ponderosa pine draws as well as oak forests and wetlands littered with migratory waterfowls. High wooded bluffs offer views of the area including Devils Tower National Monument and awe inspiring western sunsets. A variety of wildlife lives in abundance on this varied and changing landscape.
The Lake Ranch breeds beef cattle and Quarter Horses that live free on the range in huge pastures. The cows calve in April and the mares foal in May/June. The calves are sold in fall but the colts stay on the ranch to replace the working horses in the ranch remuda.
Guests are welcome to participate in all aspects of ranch life - especially when the trail boss calls for help herding cattle!
This is your chance to participate in an actual cattle drive, one of the last practices of the old West.
There is a lovely decorated guest house with eight bedrooms, each with private bathrooms, a big guest saloon and dining room and a kitchen; furthermore there is a cabin for two people with private bath. The staff lives in the old ranch house. There is also a big barn, the stables and a tack room.
For the past ten years the ranch has welcomed guests who love the ranch life. Guests (seldom more than six to eight people at a time) can join the ranch life like a part of the crew  - in the house, in the corrals, on the pastures, while helping the neighbors, or in the local saloon in the next town.
Situated just behind Devils Tower National Monument on the edge of the Black Hills this ranch has not only the western flair but also the panorama to boot – astonishing views over the surrounding area are unforgettable. You will find one of the most beautiful and varied landscapes of the West on this scenic Working Cattle Ranch.
